Get Involved

Extensive, meaningful, and intentional resident and community involvement is a hallmark of HACLA’s approach to redevelopment of its public housing communities. Starting with the Jordan Downs redevelopment currently underway, HACLA actively seeks to involve the affected public housing residents and the broader community in informing and shaping the plan for transformation. This intentional involvement ranges from the trademark HACLA Community Coach program to the establishment of Community Advisory Committee (CAC). Descriptions of these programs and groups can be found below.

In addition, HACLA has and will continue to host meetings and workshops for residents and stakeholders to provide input and feedback as well as ask questions about the planning process and the future redevelopment of William Mead Homes.

Want to get involved? Check out the opportunities below!

William Mead Resident Advisory Council

At every HACLA public housing community, there is a Resident Advisory Council (RAC) that is elected by residents to represent each site in policy decisions and other matters to HACLA administration as well as to organize community events and activities. The William Mead RAC is very active in the community and organizes events like health fairs, back to school events, food giveaways, and holiday events, to name a few.

For more information about the RAC and how to get involved, please call (213) 513-3061 or send an email to revitalizeWM@hacla.org.

William Mead Community Coach Program

Within each HACLA public housing community undergoing redevelopment (Jordan Downs, Rancho San Pedro, Rose Hill Courts, and now William Mead), HACLA launches its Community Coach program. Selected from current residents at the site and incorporating existing leadership from the RAC, the Coaches are trained and supported to be ambassadors for their community and make sure the community is up-to-date on what is going on and encourage their direct participation.

To learn more about the Community Coach program or become a Community Coach at William Mead, please call (213) 513-3061 or send an email to revitalizeWM@hacla.org.

William Mead Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) are citizen volunteers selected to provide HACLA with the highest level of citizen guidance and participatory decision-making. The William Mead CAC advises HACLA on all matters that relate to the redevelopment effort including community issues, neighborhood connections and planning, and provides a space for broader discussion of the William Mead redevelopment effort. For a list of current CAC members, please click here. The CAC meets the first Thursday every other month (January, March, May, July, September, November). These meetings are open to the public.

For more information about the CAC, please call (213) 513-3061 or send an email to revitalizeWM@hacla.org.
